SHOW BIZ!  Is my life, my day job, my ball and chain, my reason for getting up  in the morning, my reason for fearing the morning alarm, my ticket to the tropics, my bane, my fascinating yet devious paramour, my burden to bear, my nightmare dream come true, my source of cash and funnel of broke despair.  Yes, working in The Business is many things to many people.  Some days I can't believe my goshdarned flat-out crazy luck to be part of a show.  And other days I think to myself, "I'm nothing but a groveling cog in a hideously ironic machine that will never make me a property owner or even a retiree."  But then again, film is something so magical, and so powerful that one can't help but seek to understand its nuances, its successes, and the source of its power.  The links on the next page explore some of film's many and various aspects and connections.

THE WRITING LIFE!  You're thinking the thoughts that will regenerate the world and transform the consciousness of readers everywhere through the powerful medium of storytelling, or investigative journalism, or well-researched natural history, or simply an essay on the human condition that speaks to the soul.  Then you're writing it down, then you're wrestling with the drafts and the polishing, then you're pitching it to a hundred or more jaded agents, of whom perhaps three will seem cautiously interested, and will take home something you have created (wonderful! out of nothing!) and then you never hear from them again.  Ever.  But I am relentless, and will seek out a hundred more of these people.  Because I like the idea of a job that doesn't require me to get up any time before noon, and where my adventures are part of a paying gig.

TRUE LIFE!  Is there anything more mysterious, banal and dramatic than the "truth" of our lives?   Could you or myself have other selves living in separate (but just barely) dimensions?  Just how intelligent are dolphins, or birds, for that matter?  Is there something linking us all or is this a cheap carnival ride at closing time the last night of a lame county fair?  What happens when we die?  Are ghosts real?  How can a wild hawk know my thoughts and become my friend of eight years?  What is synchronicity and does it have anything to do with a structure to reality?  Can I change reality?  Is my dog Snoop, who is stuffed, a creature that thinks and feels?  Why is he always so lucky at the slot machines?  And what about those crazy end times?  Should we be worried?
